A Big Belly Shrinks Your Brain
If you’re worried about getting Alzheimer’s someday, check your waistline. Research at the Boston University School of Medicine shows that the bigger your belly, the bigger your risk of eventually succumbing to dementia.
As your belly grows, your brain and brain power may shrink.
“Our results confirm the inverse association of increasing BMI (body mass index) with lower brain volumes in older adults and with younger, middle-aged adults and extends the findings to a much larger study sample,” says researcher Dr. Sudha Seshadri.
“More importantly our data suggests (sic) a stronger connection between central obesity, particularly the visceral fat.”
