20 Fat-Burning Secrets of The Grill |
#8: Rub your steak
The secret to eating healthy is cooking low-calorie food that's so flavorful that you'll want to eat it again. So while restaurants are smothering their dishes with butter and oil, you can take the flavorful high road by using a rub, a blend of spices that you spread over the meat before grilling. Spices are calorie-free, loaded with flavor, and filled with antioxidants and micronutrients. To get you started on your road to spice mastery, try this rub, perfect for pork tenderloin, chicken legs, or skirt steak:
Grill This, Not That! Southwestern Rub
1 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp Black Pepper
1 Tbsp smoked paprika
1 Tbsp ancho or chipotle chile powder
½ Tbsp garlic powder
½ Tbsp ground cumin
½ tsp cayenne
Mix all the spices together in a bowl or plastic storage container. Makes about 6 tablespoons; keeps in your spice cabinet for up to 2 months.
