Research shows that if you eat plenty of a nutrient that most Americans are mostly missing in their diets, you may be able to cut your cancer risk by almost a third.
Canadian scientists have discovered that a lifelong diet rich in omega-3 fats, the kind found in fish oil and flax, inhibits the growth of breast cancer tumors by 30 percent.
“It’s a significant finding,” says David Ma, a professor at the University of Guelph in Ontario and one of the study’s authors. “We show that lifelong exposure to omega-3s has a beneficial role in disease prevention — in this case, breast cancer prevention. What’s important is that we have proven that omega-3s are the driving force and not something else.”
