If you want the answer to feeling happy, try the number seven. According to research on the eating habits of 80,000 people, happiness and mental health are highest among people who eat seven or more daily portions of fruits and vegetables.
The research, which analyzed the diets and mental health of about 80,000 people in Great Britain, found that only one in 10 folks eats seven or more helpings of fruits and vegetables every day. About one in four people doesn’t eat any fruits or vegetables or has only one serving a day.
“The statistical power of fruit and vegetables was a surprise. Diet has traditionally been ignored by well-being researchers,” says researcher Sarah Stewart-Brown.
