Your Job Can Give You Breast Cancer

The place where you work can be dangerous to your health. Canadian research at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre in Ontario shows that women in jobs with potentially high exposures to carcinogens and chemicals called endocrine disrupters have an increased risk of breast cancer.

The riskiest jobs, according to this study, entail working in:

• Agriculture
• Bars or gambling establishments
• Food canning
• Metal working
• Automotive plastics manufacturing

The analysis, involving more than 1,000 women with breast cancer, found that premenopausal breast cancer risk was highest for women employed in the automotive plastics and food canning industries.
