How did they miss a brain breakthrough
this OBVIOUS?
Brain BehemothNot anymore. Scientists were staring at it for over 30 years.

It's commonly used in research facilities around the globe--but it turns out this "ordinary" secret has been completely underestimated.

A one-time senior investigator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is drawing a conclusion few scientists will ever realize... "This everyday laboratory item is reallya brain supporter--the likes of which we've never seen."

He calls it, "The Brain Behemoth." Why does he think it will change the landscape of brain health in America? Discover its secret for yourself here.
How to wipe out strep throat without antibiotics
Dear Reader,

Many of my patients ask me whether they can give their kids supplements. And my answer is always yes.

But I'm sure this doesn't surprise you. You probably remember that my very first book was called Feed Your Kids Well. So obviously, children are a part of my practice--and not such a small one, either.

That's why I always keep a look out for studies like the one I want to tell you about today.

This was a 90-day clinical trial. Researchers recruited 61 kids with a history of recurrent viral and streptococcal pharyngeal infections. (Which parents know better as strep throat.)

Researchers divided the kids into two groups. One group was given a probiotic supplement each day for three months. The other group acted as a control.

And get this: By study's end, the 30 children taking a probiotic had significantly fewer episodes of strep infection, when compared to their infection rates from the previous year. And by significant, I mean by more than 90 percent.

But that's not all. The kids who supplemented with a probiotic also benefited from an 80 percent decrease in viral throat infections. (Versus a reduction rate of just 14 percent among the control group.)

This research focused on Streptococcus salivarius K12--a strain of bacteria that colonizes in the mouth, where it releases key antimicrobial peptides. This, in turn, boosts defenses against bacterial infections like strep throat and otitis media-that is, ear infection. (Which any parent will recognize as another hugely common health issue for kids.)

The takeaway? A simple probiotic could be the answer to your household's prayers. Your kids won't miss school. (Much to their chagrin, I am sure.) And you won't have to miss work, only to end up getting sick yourself a few days later.

But here's the best part: Fewer infections mean fewer trips to the doctor and fewer antibiotic prescriptions. And that makes me very happy.

Antibiotic overuse is becoming a major modern health crisis. One that's leading to more resistant infections, with fewer drugs to cure them. So why aren't more doctors promoting probiotics as a form of prevention?

The evidence in favor of taking probiotics to prevent infections was pretty clear cut in this case. Yet, I would bet you that most pediatricians didn't hear a thing about this study. And when asked, they would probably only grudgingly say that probiotics may be useful...but only if your kid has diarrhea.

I've got more than a few thoughts on most doctors' ignorance about supplements. But I'll save that discussion for tomorrow. For now, let me just say this one more time, since no one else seems to realize it...

Probiotics are an essential cornerstone of total body health. Your gut is the hub of your immune system. So a healthy gut = a healthy person. And that's true for people of all ages.

Look for a probiotic that delivers multiple strains of bacteria. Because as I've mentioned before, diversity is key when it comes to your gut's microbiome.

The pain cure too affordable for the FDA
A SAFE breakthrough with science dating back to the 1930's is attacking arthritis pain at its very source. It has an 80% success rate in one study, it's as natural as water-and it's nearly as affordable! And THERE'S the problem.

The FDA has given this amazing pain eraser little attention. In fact, they're secretly keeping Americans hooked on dangerous opioids for bigger profit-margins. One minute they say they want to protect Americans from opioids-the next minute, they approve the most dangerous one yet! Even the manufacturer admits it can cause an over-dose with just two capsules.

Take yourself out of their dangerous game once and for all with a pain miracle the government goons don't want you to know about. Battle your arthritis, soothe your pain, feel blessed relief with a soothing substance so unique-it conquers pain at its very source. Experience the "Prometheus Pain Cure" for yourself

Half of supplement users are getting bad advice--
from the source they trust most
Dear Reader,

I really couldn't wait to tell you about this story. Because when I read the first line, it actually made me laugh out loud: More than half of supplement users rely on their doctors for information on what products to use and how to use them.

This conclusion came from a recent survey conducted by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN). And it's proof positive of a pretty sad state of affairs in this country.

I mean, are you kidding me? I could probably get better recommendations from my dog Remington than I would from 99.9 percent of the primary care physicians in the U.S. Because the vast majority know nothing about the subject.

I would say the average physician probably knows about vitamin D. (Although he or she will almost certainly tell you to take too small a dose.) And they may know about fish oils--or even vitamin E (which they would probably tell you to stop taking).

But that's about it.

Unfortunately, most medical schools only give nutrition a passing mention--much less bother to teach about nutritional supplements. And the only widely disseminated information is typically the wrong information. While only the negative studies make the headlines. (Unless you happen to be reading mynewsletter, of course.)

The well-informed supplement user, like you--or anyone who's done their homework and knows the story outside of what you see on the nightly news--will most likely have exceeded their doctor's knowledge. And that's just sad.

Especially since this same survey also found that supplement users are more likely to schedule routine doctor visits than non-users. In fact, 74 percent of supplement users responded that they saw their doctor regularly. (The figure for non supplement users was a lot lower--just 66 percent.)

Which really just confirms what I already know to be true. People who take nutritional supplements care about prevention--and they're proactive about staying healthy.

In fact, I would bet that if this survey had gone deeper, it would have found that supplement users also exercise more, smoke and drink less, sleep better... andabsolutely eat better.

But I can almost guarantee you that they're not learning about this stuff at their annual physical. I mean, when was the last time your doctor asked you about what you ate? (A question every single one of my patients gets at every single appointment.)

It's a shame so many patients who are making an active effort to live healthier lives end up on the receiving end of confusing, insufficient--and often outright bad--advice.

I can't tell you how many times patients have confessed to me that they won't eventell their other physicians what supplements they're taking. Because they either get ridiculed, or are patronizingly "informed" that all supplements give you is expensive urine. (As if you couldn't say the same thing about most pharmaceutical drugs.)

I've even heard from people whose close-minded doctors told them "you can't be my patient if you continue to use nutritional supplements."

Honestly, I don't know what kind of "open dialogue" you can have with any physician who is this ignorant of nutritional medicine. But unfortunately, they're all over the place. And it's a dangerous situation--because supplements are active substances. And they can interact with prescription medications.

So here's what I tell my patients to do...

First off, come to every visit with a list of all of the supplements you are taking. (I often ask my patients to bring this list along, so I can see exactly what they're taking.) Your doctor needs to know this, along with what prescription and over-the-counter drugs you're taking.

Next, always ask about potential drug interactions with the nutritional supplements you're currently taking (or ones you're considering taking). Again, this is critically important.

And if your doctor is unwilling or unable to answer your questions? It's time to consider seeing a different physician. The good news is, there are plenty of integrative doctors who do understand the importance of supplements. The American College for Advancement in Medicine (800-532-3688 FREE, www.acam.org) and the International College of Integrative Medicine (419-358-0273, www.icimed.com) are two great resources that can help you find one in your area.
